You may have heard of cryptocurrency exchange FTX and its CEO and Founder, Sam Bankman-Fried. But have you ever heard of Alameda Research? Alameda Research is a quantitative trading firm that Bankman-Fried founded in 2017. The firm is one of the largest in the crypto space, with over $1 billion in assets under management.
Alameda is one of the largest and most influential crypto trading firms in the world. It was founded by Sam Bankman-Fried, or SBF as he’s known. The trading firm operates out of the Bahamas along with the rest of his empire.
Alameda, a modest firm with only 30 employees, generated over $1 billion in profit last year. The company and its employees have generally preferred to stay out of the spotlight. However, in recent months, as the crypto market has collapsed and Alameda's connections to FTX and other virtual currency markets have been revealed, it has become more difficult for the company to stay under the radar. As Alameda's influence grows, so do concerns about potential conflicts of interest.
