Founded in December by Sean Wotherspoon, Nick Adler, and Brennan Russo, MNTGE is a digital wearables brand built around vintage clothing known for its innovative designs and cutting-edge functionality.
The concept alone sold 1600 mint passes, and since then, they have been hosting Twitter spaces with a variety of fashion and web3 industry folks, including Beeple, Ian Rogers, Gordon Goner, Robert Triefus, a Gucci designer, and Jon Wexler, a designer for Adidas.
The first collection will be launched tomorrow, February 7 at 4 P.M. EST.
Wotherspoon has created a special edition MNTGE trunk containing two digital wearable NFTs - one of four digital vintage pieces that he has curated from his archive, and one of three proprietary ink bottles that he has created.
Following that, it's all up to the holder to decide what to do with the card. It is up to them whether they wish to keep both items as they are or to press them into a totally new, and much rarer, NFT - a dynamic version of the original garment combined with an animation inspired by the surrounding nature. Digital wearables may eventually be incorporated into a range of metaverse games and ecosystems in a variety of ways.
"We wanted people to put their spin on it," says Wotherspoon, and compares the customization aspect of the sneakers he designs - which are often associated with big brands like Adidas - to the customization aspect of the sneakers. “There is more to it than just buying my shoes. The journey doesn't end there.”. "It is the beginning of a journey because there is always something more for you to discover as you go along."
"It is extremely exciting to be able to transform an NFT and hold a certain level of customization in the hands of the consumer," he said in an e-mail.
In the digital fashion and NFT space, a growing trend is the customizing of garments with or without the addition of an additional element of jeopardy.
Adidas Originals: Capsule NFT Collection (released in May) owners were offered a choice between either burning their capsules - and switching them out for a piece from the brand's recently released Virtual Gear collection - or holding on to the capsules and waiting for the next iteration of the project. In addition, Adidas has released a dressing tool for PFP avatars from partner collections like Bored Ape Yacht Club that allows them to wear the Virtual Gear collection.
As part of its AI-powered avatar creator, Ready Player Me is also launching a new feature that lets users pimp out their outfits with different textures and patterns generated by an AI as a response to their written prompts - such as star print or velvet - in a similar fashion.
“Definitely, we are seeing a shift happening, and even before the shift occurred over a year ago, this is the way we were thinking while developing MNTGE," said Wotherspoon. “As a fan of gamification and customization, I am excited to see the two coming together because it allows for a more personal and tailored environment. I would put it this way: it's fun and engaging." That's why he maintains, it's so appealing to web3 users because it is fun and engaging.
MNTGE pass holders will receive 1,600 of the 3,100 trunks available. It is expected that some of the garments and inks will be rare than others out of the four garments. With regards to the combined NFTs, their rarity will be determined by their holders, based on the number of holders who choose to press the two together and the level of rarity they desire.
